Publishing to Squarespace

Check your Squarespace plan allows JavaScript, then paste your Publish code into a Code block.

Written by Ashton Smith

You can add a Publish post to your Squarespace website by pasting its code into a Code block. Your Squarespace plan needs to allow JavaScript (the code that loads your post).

Which Squarespace plans work with Publish?

Every Squarespace plan has Code blocks, but not every plan lets them run JavaScript. Here's which plans work:

Legacy plans are older Squarespace plans that you may still be on.

If your plan doesn't allow JavaScript, you can export your post as JPGs and upload those instead, on a yearly Publish plan.

How do I copy my post's code?

First, set up your publishing details if you haven't already.

  1. In Publish, finish your post.

  2. Click Publish and wait for it to finish uploading.

    Publish the post from Publish.

  3. Click Copy Link. This copies your post's code.

Copy Link copies your post's code.

How do I add my post to Squarespace?

Next, add a Code block to your Squarespace post or page.

  1. Log in to Squarespace and open the blog post or page where you want your post.

  2. Click Edit, then click Add Block or the + where you want your post.

  3. Click Code.

Choose where to add your block in Squarespace.

Choose Code to add a Code block.

  4. Delete the example text and paste all of the code you copied from Publish.

  5. Set the mode to HTML and keep Display Source turned off.

  6. Click Apply or Save.

Paste your own code, select HTML and keep Display Source off.

How do I check my post?

When you're ready, publish your Squarespace post or page. Then open the live page on your website and check your whole post shows, not just the first photo.

In the Squarespace editor, you may see a message like this instead of your post. This is normal, as Squarespace doesn't run JavaScript in the editor. Check the live page instead.

Squarespace may show this message in the editor. Check your post on the live page.

Note: Add your post title, featured image and SEO details (like your page description) in Squarespace yourself. Publish doesn't fill these in for you.

What if my post doesn't show?

If your post doesn't show, check these:

  • Your Squarespace plan allows JavaScript (see the table above).

  • You pasted the code into a Code block in HTML mode, not a text block.

  • You pasted all of the code without changing it. If you're not sure, copy it again.

  • If you're on Squarespace 7.0 and your post only shows one photo until you refresh the page, turn off Ajax loading.
