Turning off Ajax loading fixes a Publish post that won't load properly on some Squarespace 7.0 websites. Ajax loading is a Squarespace setting that loads pages without refreshing them, which can stop your post from loading.
Do I need to turn off Ajax loading?
You only need this fix if all of these are true:
Your website is on Squarespace 7.0.
Your post shows when you open its link directly or refresh the page, but only shows one photo or doesn't show when you click through to it from another page on your website.
Your website uses one of the templates listed below.
If you're on Squarespace 7.1, or your post never shows at all, see Publish post not loading correctly in Squarespace instead.
Which Squarespace templates use Ajax loading?
These Squarespace 7.0 template families use Ajax loading:
Brine family: Aria, Basil, Blend, Brine, Burke, Cacao, Clay, Ethan, Fairfield, Feed, Foster, Greenwich, Hatch, Heights, Hunter, Hyde, Impact, Jaunt, Juke, Keene, Kin, Maple, Margot, Marta, Mentor, Mercer, Miller, Mojave, Moksha, Motto, Nueva, Pedro, Polaris, Pursuit, Rally, Rover, Royce, Sofia, Sonny, Sonora, Stella, Thorne, Vow, Wav, West
Farro family: Farro, Haute
Tremont family: Camino, Carson, Henson, Tremont
York family: Artesia, Flores, Harris, Jasper, Jones, Lange, Shibori, York
Skye family: Foundry, Indigo, Ready, Skye, Tudor. These templates don't have the Ajax setting, so use Option 2 below.
Which Squarespace plans work with Publish?
Your Squarespace plan also needs to allow JavaScript (the code that loads your post). Here's which plans work:
Plan type | Plan | Works with Publish? |
Squarespace's plans today | Basic | No, export as JPGs instead |
Squarespace's plans today | Core, Plus, Advanced | Yes |
Older Squarespace plans | Personal | No, export as JPGs instead |
Older Squarespace plans | Business, Commerce Basic, Commerce Advanced | Yes |
Older plans are ones Squarespace no longer sells, but you may still be on one. If your plan doesn't allow JavaScript, you can export your post as JPGs instead, on a yearly Publish plan.
How do I turn off Ajax loading? (Option 1)
If your template isn't in the Skye family, turn off Ajax loading in the Style Editor.
In the Squarespace Home menu, click Design, then click Style Editor.
Scroll down to Site: Loading.
Untick Enable Ajax Loading.
Click Save.
Next, check your post by clicking through to it from another page on your website, and by opening its link directly.
What if my template doesn't have the Ajax setting? (Option 2)
If your template is in the Skye family, or you can't find Enable Ajax Loading, add a line of code to your website instead.
In the Squarespace Home menu, click Settings, then Advanced, then Code Injection.
In the Header box, paste this line of code. If there's already code in the box, add it on a new line and leave the other code as it is.
<script src="https://content1.getnarrativeapp.com/ss-ajax-loader.js"></script>
Click Save.
Next, check your post by clicking through to it from another page on your website, and by opening its link directly.
What if it doesn't help?
If your post still doesn't load, undo the change:
For Option 1, tick Enable Ajax Loading again and click Save.
For Option 2, delete only the line you added and click Save.
Then contact us through the chat bubble or at [email protected] with the link to your live page and your Squarespace template name.
