Narrative AI Editing FAQs

Answers to common questions about editing with AI Presets in Narrative, from preset types and plans to training and offline use.

Written by Ashton Smith

Narrative's AI editing applies an AI Preset to your photos when you ship them to Lightroom, so they arrive already edited. You then add your finishing touches and export from Lightroom.

What types of AI Preset are there?

There are three types of AI Preset:

  • Core AI Presets: Narrative's own ready-made looks.

  • Artist AI Presets: looks created by professional photographers, ready to use without any training. Each one is a one-off purchase from the AI Preset Marketplace. Learn about Artist AI Presets.

  • Personal AI Presets: trained on your own edited photos in Lightroom Classic, so they edit like you. They can be Color or Black & White.

Personal AI Presets keep learning from the corrections you make. Core and Artist AI Presets don't change based on your edits.

What do the Core AI Presets look like?

There are two Core AI Presets:

  • Modern True Tone: a timeless, modern look with true-to-life color. It has vibrant greens, reds, oranges and blues, and works in all shooting conditions.

  • Light and Bright: warm skin tones and bright highlights with true-to-life color. Inspired by film, it blends vibrant color with a soft, slightly warm tone for a nostalgic feel.

Which plans include Personal AI Presets?

Personal AI Presets are on Premium and Ultra plans. Color and Black & White Personal AI Presets are counted separately:

  • Premium: 1 Color and 1 Black & White.

  • Ultra: 5 Color and 5 Black & White.

To see what each plan includes, compare Narrative plans. For prices, see narrative.so/pricing.

How do I edit my photos with an AI Preset?

You apply an AI Preset when you ship your photos from Narrative.

  1. Choose the photos you want to edit in Narrative.

  2. Click Ship + Edit.

  3. Choose Lightroom Classic or Lightroom CC.

  4. Turn on Apply AI Preset for Lightroom and choose an AI Preset.

  5. Check the photos you're shipping, then ship.

With Lightroom Classic, you can apply more than one AI Preset at a time and compare them with Snapshots. Learn how to ship with an AI Preset.

How do I train my own AI Preset?

You can train a Personal AI Preset on your edited and exported RAW photos in Lightroom Classic. Learn how to train a Personal AI Preset.

If Narrative says there aren't enough images, add more photos you've edited in a consistent style.

Narrative chooses your training photos automatically. If you'd like to choose them yourself, ask our Support team and they can turn this on for your account.

Does my Personal AI Preset get better over time?

Your Personal AI Preset learns from the corrections you make and export in Lightroom Classic. Learn how your AI Preset improves automatically. If you don't want it to keep learning, contact our Support team.

Can I edit offline?

You can edit offline once your AI Presets have downloaded. You'll need to be online to train a Personal AI Preset and to download it the first time. Get ready to work offline.
