What kind of edited images can I use to train my Personal AI Presets?

Find out which edited photos Narrative can use to train a Personal AI Preset, including black and white photos.

Written by Ashton Smith

You can train a Personal AI Preset with color or black and white photos you've edited in Lightroom Classic. Training needs at least 1,500 edited and exported photos before it can start. This is the same for Color and Black & White AI Presets.

When Narrative finds a large enough group of photos edited in a consistent style, it trains an AI Preset from them. If your catalogs mix lots of different styles, Narrative may not be able to train an AI Preset for every style.

Which photos can Narrative train on?

Narrative can train on photos that meet all of these:

  • They're RAW photos you've edited in a Lightroom Classic catalog.

  • You've exported them from Lightroom Classic after editing.

  • Their original RAW file is connected, or they have a Smart Preview in Lightroom Classic.

  • They're downloaded to your computer or an external drive, not only stored in the cloud.

Narrative can't train on JPEG or PNG photos. Connect any external drives with your catalogs and photos before you start.

Can I train with black and white photos?

You can train with black and white photos. When you start training, choose Color + Black & White, Color only or Black & White only. Narrative trains on the type of photos you choose. Learn how to train and use a Black & White Personal AI Preset.

Color and Black & White Personal AI Presets are counted separately. Premium plans include 1 of each, and Ultra plans include 5 of each.

How do I get the best results?

You'll get the best results from photos you've edited in a consistent style, for example the same kind of shoot in similar light. The more consistently edited photos you train with, the better your AI Preset will match your style.

Can I use photos edited in Lightroom CC?

Training uses Lightroom Classic catalogs, so you'll need to bring your Lightroom CC photos into Lightroom Classic first. Learn how to use Lightroom CC edits to train a Personal AI Preset.
