Your photos made it into Lightroom, but your AI Preset edits aren't showing? Work through these checks in order.
Seeing a “Sorry, something went wrong” error in Narrative instead? See what to do about that error.
Steps 3 to 5 are specific to Lightroom Classic.
1. Update Narrative
Make sure you're on the latest version of Narrative, then try again.
2. Check the AI Preset is turned on when shipping
Narrative only edits your photos if you turn on an AI Preset when you ship.
Click SHIP + EDIT in Narrative.
Turn on Apply AI Preset for Lightroom.
Turn on Apply AI Preset for Lightroom in the shipping window.
Choose the AI Preset you want to use.
Ship your photos, and keep Narrative open until they've finished editing.
For the full steps, see Shipping images with an AI Preset.
3. Check the Narrative plugin in Lightroom Classic
Narrative installs its Lightroom Classic plugin automatically, but it needs to be enabled.
Open Lightroom Classic.
Choose File → Plug-in Manager.
Select Narrative and check it says Enabled.
If the plugin was turned off, or Lightroom was still switching catalogs when you shipped, let Lightroom finish opening and enable the plugin.
Narrative won't ship photos that are already in the catalog you've chosen. So if your photos made it into Lightroom without their edits, ship them to a different catalog, or apply the AI Preset to photos already in Lightroom Classic.
4. Check Lightroom Classic’s import settings
When you import into Lightroom Classic, set both Develop Settings and Metadata to None in Apply During Import. Otherwise, a Lightroom preset or metadata template can override your AI Preset edits.
For a new Lightroom Classic import, leave Develop Settings and Metadata set to None.
Check the photo in the Develop module. AI Preset edits show as adjustments there, not in Lightroom's list of presets.
Shipped with more than one AI Preset? Open the Snapshots panel in Develop to switch between them.
5. Check photos that were already in Lightroom Classic
If the photos were already in your catalog, Lightroom Classic may still be showing its own settings instead of your AI Preset edits.
Be careful before reading metadata from the files. It replaces what's in your catalog, including any edits and ratings you've made in Lightroom since.
Shipping them again won't help, because Narrative skips photos that are already in that catalog. Instead, follow the warning and one-photo test in the metadata troubleshooting guide.
6. Check your drive
Narrative saves your AI Preset edits to your photos' files, so it needs to be able to save to your drive.
Keep your photos and their XMP sidecar files on a drive with free space.
Make sure the drive isn't read-only. On Mac, NTFS drives are read-only.
Avoid working from a memory card. Copy your photos to your computer or a reliable drive, and try again with the copies.
For more drive checks, see Why are my ratings, tags or AI Presets not appearing in my editing software?.
Still not showing?
Keep Narrative and Lightroom open until Narrative shows the ship is complete, then check again. Large shoots take longer.
If they still don't appear, chat with us using the chat bubble or email [email protected]. Tell us whether all photos or only some are affected, whether the AI Preset finished editing in Narrative, and whether the photos were already in Lightroom.
