You can move your Publish posts to a new website without re-uploading them. Your post links and photos stay the same when you move, because each post isn't tied to one website.
Important: Your old website's page links don't redirect to your new website automatically. Ask your website host or developer to set up redirects.
What should I do before I move?
Before you move, set up your new website and check everything works.
Back up your website and keep your original photos and Publish posts.
Make a list of your old page links, titles and SEO details, and where each one will go on your new website.
Check your new website works with the publishing option you want to use (see the table below).
Add one test post to your new website and check its layout, photos, text and links.
Don't delete or unpublish your posts before your new website is ready.
Which publishing options can I use on my new website?
Here's which publishing options work on each website:
New website | Publishing options |
WordPress | Plugin or embed code (your website needs to allow JavaScript for embed code) |
Showit + Advanced Blog | Plugin, code or JPG export |
Showit + Basic Blog | Plugin or JPG export |
Showit (no blog) | JPG export |
Squarespace Core, Plus or Advanced (or the older Business, Commerce Basic or Commerce Advanced plans) | Embed code or JPG export |
Squarespace Basic (or the older Personal plan) | JPG export |
Exporting as JPGs needs a yearly Publish plan.
Did I publish my posts with the WordPress plugin?
If your posts are on a WordPress website and you published them with the plugin, change your publishing method to code in your publishing details and publish each post again before you copy its code. You only need to do this if you're moving to a website that uses embed code.
If you published with embed code, you can copy your code straight away.
How do I move my posts to WordPress?
You can move to WordPress from Squarespace, Showit or another WordPress website. Embed code works while you're still building your new website. The plugin needs your new website to be ready, because it connects to one WordPress website at a time.
To move with embed code:
In Publish, open your post and click Copy Link to copy its code.
On your new WordPress website, create a new post.
Add a Custom HTML block, paste the code and save.
Add your post title, meta title and meta description in WordPress.
Open the live post and check it shows properly.
To move with the plugin:
Set up and test your new WordPress website first. To preview your posts while you build it, add them with embed code.
When your website is ready, connect the plugin to your new website.
In Publish, publish each post again so it goes to your new website.
Check each post on your new website before you remove anything from your old one.
For the full steps, see Publishing to WordPress with embed code or Install and connect the Narrative WordPress plugin.
How do I move my posts to Squarespace?
You can move to Squarespace from WordPress or Showit with embed code. Your Squarespace website needs to be on the Core, Plus or Advanced plan (or the older Business, Commerce Basic or Commerce Advanced plans), because those plans let our code load.
If you published with the WordPress plugin, change your publishing method to code first (see above).
In Publish, open your post and click Copy Link to copy its code.
On your new Squarespace website, create a new blog post or page.
Add a Code block, paste the code and save.
Add your post title and SEO description in Squarespace.
Open the live page and check your post shows properly.
On the Squarespace Basic plan (or the older Personal plan), embed code won't load, so export your posts as JPGs and add them to your posts yourself.
For the full steps, see Squarespace.
How do I move my posts to Showit?
You can move to Showit from WordPress or Squarespace. How you move depends on your Showit plan:
Showit + Advanced Blog: use embed code, the plugin or JPG export. Embed code works even before your new website is launched.
Showit + Basic Blog: use the plugin once your new website is launched, or JPG export.
Showit with no blog: use JPG export.
To move with embed code (Advanced Blog):
If you published with the WordPress plugin, change your publishing method to code first (see above).
In Publish, open your post and click Copy Link to copy its code.
In your Showit blog, create a new post, add a Custom HTML block, paste the code and save.
Check the live post shows properly.
To move with the plugin (Advanced or Basic Blog):
Wait until your new Showit website is launched.
Connect the plugin to your Showit blog.
In Publish, publish each post again so it goes to your new blog.
Check each post before you remove anything from your old website.
For the full steps, see Showit.

What SEO details do I need to add myself?
Your image descriptions move with your posts. What else moves depends on how you publish:
Plugin: The plugin also fills in your post title, meta title and meta description in WordPress.
Embed code: Add your post title, meta title and meta description on your new website yourself.
What should I check after I move?
After you move, check these:
Your old page links redirect to the right pages on your new website.
Your posts show properly on desktop and mobile.
Keep your backups until your new website is working. You don't need to delete your Publish posts because you've moved.
