Add GIFs to your Publish post

Add animated GIFs to your Publish post from your source folder, and play or pause them while you build your layout.

Written by Ashton Smith

You can add GIFs to your Publish post the same way you add photos. Your GIFs play on your live post once you publish it.

How do I add a GIF to my Publish post?

To add a GIF, put it in your post's source folder (the folder Publish uses for your post's photos). Then click the GIF in the gallery, or drag and drop it into your layout. To learn more, see Add photos to your Publish post.

When you publish your post, your GIF is published with it. Publish resizes your GIF before it uploads, so your post still loads quickly.

Is there a size limit for GIFs in Publish?

Each GIF can be up to 30MB. If a GIF is bigger than that, Publish shows a message asking you to reduce its file size before you add it to your post.

How do I play or pause GIFs while I build my post?

When your post has a GIF in it, a Play and Pause button shows in the bottom left of your layout. Your GIFs don't play in the layout until you click Play. Click Pause to stop them again, for example if they're slowing down your computer.

Note: GIFs only play when you publish your post. They don't play if you export your post as JPGs.
