Add photos to your Publish post

Add photos to your Publish post with a single click, by dragging them into the layout, or all at once with the Magic Wand.

You can add photos from the gallery to your Publish post in three ways: click them, drag them into the layout, or use the Magic Wand.

How do I add a photo by clicking it?

Clicking a photo in the gallery is the quickest way to add it to your Publish post. Publish adds it to the bottom of your post.

If you'd rather add photos with a double-click, open Preferences (⌘,), go to the General tab and uncheck Add images to the blog with a single click.

To add two or more photos side by side, select them in the gallery, hold Command (⌘) and double-click.

How do I drag photos into my post?

Dragging a photo from the gallery lets you put it exactly where you want it in your post. To drag a photo into your post:

  1. Find the photo in the gallery.

  2. Click and hold it.

  3. Drag it to where you want it in your post, then let go.

Once your post has a photo in it, blue bars show where the next photo will go as you drag.

Sometimes you'll see more than one blue bar. This lets you build layouts like this one:

If you drag a photo on top of another one, the photo underneath grays out. Let go to replace it, or swap the two, like this:

You can also select several photos and drag them in at once:

How do I add lots of photos at once?

The Magic Wand adds many photos to your Publish post at once, in a layout Publish builds for you. Here's what it does:

Afterward, you can drag the photos around to rearrange them. To learn more, see Build your Publish post with the Magic Wand.
