Auto-rate adds the ratings you choose to your photos, based on their AI First Pass assessment. For example, you can give every Best in scene photo 1 star in one click. You still choose which photos you keep.
Auto-rate is available on Standard, Premium and Ultra plans.
Important: Auto-rate can replace the ratings already in your project, so check your choices before you apply them.
What do I need before I auto-rate?
Before you auto-rate, wait for First Pass to finish assessing your project. You can open Auto-rate while it's still assessing, but you can't apply ratings until it's done.
First Pass sorts your photos into five categories:
Best in scene
Above average
Average
Below average
Undesirable
How do I auto-rate my photos?
To auto-rate your photos, follow these steps.
In your project, go to Photo → Auto-rate via First Pass... in the menu bar.
In the Auto-rate window, check how many photos are in each category.
For each category, choose a rating under Rating to Apply.
Check every category, including any set to Clear existing rating.
Click Apply Ratings.
Narrative adds your ratings and shows how many photos were rated. Keep Narrative open while it applies them. Then filter by your new ratings to check your selection and make your final picks.
If you change your mind before applying, click Cancel.
Which ratings can I apply?
For each category, you can choose:
1 star to 5 stars
A color label: Red, Yellow, Green, Blue or Purple
Tagged or Rejected
Keep current rating
Clear existing rating
What's the difference between Keep current rating and Clear existing rating?
Keep current rating leaves the ratings on those photos as they are. Clear existing rating removes them.
Every category starts on Keep current rating. You need to change at least one category before you can click Apply Ratings. Narrative remembers your last settings, so check them each time you use Auto-rate.
What's a good way to start?
A good way to start is to give Best in scene 1 star and leave the other categories on Keep current rating. This gives you a starting selection from every scene, but it isn't your final gallery.
Then check each photo for expressions, composition and the moment, and compare it with similar photos. Auto-rate never deletes photos and doesn't cull to a set number of photos.
What should I do after auto-rating?
After auto-rating, filter to the ratings you applied, check your selection and count, and click Ship + Edit when you're ready. To learn more, see Use Ratings to Select your Images.
