Narrative has three main ways to look at your photos: Loupe View, Grid View and Scenes View. You can switch between them with the view buttons on the left of the toolbar, or with a single key.
How do I use Loupe View?
Loupe View shows one photo large, with a filmstrip of the photos around it. Narrative opens projects in Loupe View by default.
Press E to open Loupe View.
Press Y to switch the filmstrip between vertical and horizontal.
To learn more, see Using Loupe View in Narrative.
How do I show or hide the filmstrip?
The filmstrip is the row of thumbnails, with their ratings, down the left side or along the bottom of Loupe View. If it has disappeared, you can bring it back in any of these ways:
Press ⌘Y on Mac or Alt+Y on Windows. Press it again to hide the filmstrip.
On Mac, choose View → Show Filmstrip in the menu bar.
Go to Preferences → Interface and, under Filmstrip, set Visibility to Always visible.
The filmstrip is part of Loupe View. If you're in Grid View, press E to switch to Loupe View first.
To move the filmstrip, press Y to switch it between the left side and the bottom, or go to Preferences → Interface and choose Vertical or Bottom under Orientation.
How do I use Grid View?
Grid View shows your photos as a grid of thumbnails, so you can see lots of them at once. To open Grid View, press G or click the Grid view icon in the toolbar.
In Grid View, the slider on the right of the toolbar changes the size of the thumbnails.
How do I use Scenes View?
Scenes View groups similar photos into Scenes, so you can compare them and pick the best of each moment. To open Scenes View, press S or click the Scenes view icon in the toolbar. Scenes show once Narrative has finished processing your project.
Scenes View is part of Advanced AI Culling, on Standard, Premium and Ultra plans.
In Scenes View, you can:
Press ← / → to move to the previous or next Scene.
Press ⌘ ↑ / ↓ on Mac or Ctrl ↑ / ↓ on Windows to move through the photos in a Scene.
Hold ⌘ Shift and click a thumbnail on Mac, or Ctrl Shift and click on Windows, to select every photo in that Scene.
You can change these keys in Preferences. To learn more, see Use Scenes and rank ordering in Narrative.
Can I choose which view new projects open in?
You can choose whether new projects open in Loupe View or Grid View. Go to Preferences → Import and choose Loupe View or Grid View under View.
