Batch switch between AI Presets in Lightroom Classic

Shipped photos with more than one AI Preset? Use Sync Snapshots in Lightroom Classic to switch the AI Preset on many photos at once.

Written by Ashton Smith

When you ship photos from Narrative to Lightroom Classic with more than one AI Preset, each AI Preset is added to your photos as a Snapshot named "[AI Preset] (via Narrative)". The AI Preset you set as the primary preset is the one that shows first. To change which AI Preset shows on a group of photos later, for example one AI Preset for outdoor photos and another for indoor photos, use Sync Snapshots in Lightroom Classic.

Note: Shipping with more than one AI Preset works with Lightroom Classic only. Lightroom CC doesn't support multiple AI Presets.

How do I switch AI Presets on several photos at once?

To switch the AI Preset on several photos at once, follow these steps.

  1. In Narrative, click Ship + Edit, choose more than one AI Preset and ship to Lightroom Classic. To choose which AI Preset shows first, set it as the primary preset in the shipping window. For help with this step, see Shipping Images with an AI Preset.

  2. In Lightroom Classic, select all the photos you want to change. You need to select more than one photo. You can filter by scene, location or anything else to group the photos you want to give the same AI Preset.

  3. Go to File → Plug-in Extras → Sync Snapshots.

  4. In the Sync Snapshots window, use the dropdown menu to choose the AI Preset Snapshot you want to apply to all the selected photos. The list shows the Narrative Snapshots on the main photo in your selection (the one that's highlighted the most).

  5. Click Apply.

After you click Apply, Lightroom Classic switches to the Develop module and applies your chosen Snapshot to each selected photo. When it's done, a message tells you how many photos were updated. Photos that don't have a Snapshot with that name are skipped, and the message tells you how many.

Important: Sync Snapshots replaces any edits you've made to those photos since you shipped them. If you want to keep your own edits, save them as a Snapshot in Lightroom Classic first.

What if Sync Snapshots shows a message instead of the window?

Sync Snapshots shows a message instead of the window when it can't run on your selection. Here's what each message means:

  • Please select multiple photos before using Sync Snapshots. You only have one photo selected. Select more photos and try again.

  • No Narrative snapshots found on the active photo. The main photo in your selection wasn't shipped from Narrative with an AI Preset. Make a photo that was shipped with your AI Presets the main photo, then try again.

Tips for switching AI Presets

Here are a few things to know about switching AI Presets with Sync Snapshots:

  • You can repeat Sync Snapshots as many times as you like with different selections. For example, run it once for outdoor photos with one AI Preset, and again for indoor photos with another.

  • Sync Snapshots only changes which Snapshot is applied. Your other AI Preset Snapshots stay saved on each photo, so you can switch between them any time from the Snapshots panel on the left side of the Develop module.
