Loupe View is the default workspace in Narrative. It is designed to help you move quickly through your images, understand their quality at a glance, and make confident selections using AI powered assessments.

What is Loupe View?

By default, Narrative opens in Loupe View (keyboard shortcut E). This is where you will see a large preview of your selected image, along with a filmstrip showing the surrounding images.

You can toggle the filmstrip between horizontal and vertical by pressing Y.

Understanding Image Assessments

In Loupe View, you’ll see AI generated assessments next to each image in your filmstrip.

Colours:

Blue: Potential pick
Grey: Unlikely pick
Red: Undesirable

Only the images within the same scene will appear in bold colours, making it easy to immediately identify the strongest and weakest images in that group.

Numbers

Each image also has a ranking that reflects its position within its scene.

  • 1 means Narrative has identified it as the best photo within that scene

  • Higher numbers indicate lower rankings

These insights help you understand at a glance which images are likely to be the most usable.

Navigating in Loupe View

Use your keyboard to move quickly:

  • Up / Down arrows: Move through images within the same scene

  • Right arrow: Jump to the next scene

  • Left arrow: Go back to the previous scene

This allows for fast, intuitive movement through large sessions.

Sorting Your Images

You can sort the filmstrip using filters to change how your images appear:

  • Capture Time

  • Reverse Capture Time

  • Scene Rank

  • Filename

Sorting can help you review your work from different perspectives, whether you’re looking chronologically or want to view the strongest images first.

Customising Loupe View

To access your settings, click the Preferences button in the top right of Narrative, then open the Interface tab.

Here, you’ll find options to personalise your Loupe View experience, including:

  • Show or hide filenames under thumbnails

  • Choose your image assessments: full, minimal, or hidden

  • Select your thumbnail size: small, medium, or large

These settings update instantly so you can tune Loupe View to match your workflow and visual style.
