If some of your photos show as one file with two file types, like IMG_0001.CR2+CR3, and photos from your second camera seem to be missing, two of your cameras have given photos the same file name.
Why are my photos showing as CR2+CR3?
Narrative groups files with the same name in the same folder into one photo. That's how a RAW file stays together with its JPEG or XMP file. So when two cameras give photos the same name, like a CR2 from one camera and a CR3 from another, Narrative shows them as one photo.
Files with the same name in different folders are kept apart, so you can fix it by moving each camera's photos into its own folder.
How do I fix it?
Important: Do this before you start culling. Narrative saves your ratings in an XMP file with the same name as the photo, so photos that share a name also share an XMP file.
To split your photos up:
Open your project in Narrative, right-click one of the photos and choose Open in Finder (Open in File Explorer on Windows).
In that folder, create two new folders: one called CR2 and one called CR3.
Move all the CR2 files into the CR2 folder.
Move all the CR3 files into the CR3 folder.
Go back to Narrative and choose File → Refresh Source Folder. You can also right-click the project's tab and choose Refresh Source Folder.
Your CR2 and CR3 photos now show separately. Narrative includes photos in subfolders of your project's folder, so they stay in the same project.
How do I stop it happening next time?
Give each camera's photos different file names when you copy them from your memory cards. Learn how to rename your images in bulk, including while you ingest.
