What is Focus Score?

Any image that contains at least one detected face will receive a focus score. This score is calculated using several factors including the focus of each individual subject, how important those subjects are within the scene, and the overall context of the image.

Focus scores range from 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest).

Viewing Focus Scores

You can view the focus score for each photo in the bottom right corner of the thumbnail, just above the Image Assessment indicator.

Filtering by Focus Score

Narrative gives you multiple ways to filter images by their focus scores:

  • All Image Focus Scores - Display all images regardless of focus score (default view)

  • Image Focus Score X and Above - Show only images with a specific focus score or higher (e.g., images scored 6 - 10)

  • Image Focus Score X and Below - Show only images with a specific focus score or lower (e.g., images score 5 or below)

  • Exact Image Focus Score - Display only images with a specific focus score (e.g., only images scored as 8)

  • No focus score - Show only images that do not have a focus score (images without detected faces)

How to Filter by Focus Score:

To filter by focus score, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Filter icon in the toolbar

  2. Open the Focus dropdown menu

  3. Select your desired focus score filter option

Example Use Cases:

  • Filter to "Focus score 7 and above" to see only your sharpest images with well-focused subjects

  • Filter to "No focus score" to find landscape shots, detail shots, or other images without faces

  • Filter to exact scores when you want to review images at a specific quality threshold

💡 Tip: When filtering by focus score range (e.g., "6 and above"), images without a focus score are not automatically included unless you specifically tick "Include Images without Image Focus scores".
