Using Narrative on Multiple Devices

You can use Narrative with multiple devices, however, syncing projects between them isn't automatic and needs to be done manually. How many users can be logged in at once depends on your Narrative plan.

Currently, all users on a plan need to log in using the same email address (the account owner's login). So while multiple users can share access on the Premium and Ultra plans, they must do so by logging in with the same account details.

How many users can be signed in at once?

Depending on your plan, here's how many users can be logged in to your Narrative account at a time:

Lite - 1 Concurrent User

Standard - 1 Concurrent Users

Premium - 2 Concurrent Users

Ultra - 4 Concurrent Users

💡 You can install Narrative on multiple devices but only the number of users above can be signed in at one time.

How Narrative Handles your Images

Narrative does not store or sync your images. Instead, it reads directly from your source folder, meaning:

  • Your photos stay where you imported them (on your computer or external drive).

  • Narrative doesn't copy or upload your images.

  • Flags and ratings are stored inside the XMP files in your source folder.

How to Manually Sync Projects Between Devices

To work on the same project across two devices, follow these steps:

1. Use an external drive

Keep your source folder on an external drive that you can plug into both computers. This makes switching much easier.

2. Recreate the project on the second device

Narrative projects don't automatically transfer across devices. To access a project on another computer:

  • Open Narrative on your second device.

  • Create a new project.

  • Select the same source folder as you used on the first device.

  • Narrative will now read the ratings, labels and other data stored on your XMP files.

3. Refresh the source folder when switching devices

If you make changes (like new ratings, labels or tags) on device 1, then move to device 2:

  • Plug in your external drive.

  • Open the project in Narrative.

  • Go to the File menu and click "Refresh Source Folder" - this will load the latest XMP changes.
