Where are my old projects in Narrative?

Find projects Narrative archived after 40 days, restore them from the Archived tab, or turn automatic archiving off.

Written by Ashton Smith

If a project is missing from your Projects screen in Narrative, it's probably been archived. Narrative archives old projects to keep your Projects screen tidy, and you can bring them back at any time.

Why was my project archived?

Narrative automatically archives projects you haven't worked on in over 40 days. Archiving doesn't move or delete your photos. They stay where they are on your drive.

To turn automatic archiving off, go to Preferences → General → Archive and uncheck the setting. You can also archive a project yourself: right-click it on the Projects screen and choose Archive.

How do I find my archived projects?

To see your archived projects, click the Archived tab on the Projects screen. To go back to your other projects, click All.

How do I restore an archived project?

  1. Click the Archived tab on the Projects screen.

  2. Right-click the project and choose Restore. You can also select it and click Restore in the toolbar.

  3. Narrative shows "Project successfully restored" and scans the photos again.

Restoring works like importing the project again. Narrative reads your ratings, color labels, tags and crops back from your files, and works out Scenes and AI assessments again, so give it time to finish before you cull. If the project's folder has moved, Narrative asks you to choose where it is now.

The restored project goes back to the Projects screen in order of when it was first created. If you sort by Date Created, it might be further down the list than you expect.
